- Prioritize your list of the things that you want to accomplish. Depending on how much time you have, don't expect to get everything done. If you're in a time crunch, focus on those areas where guests will spend the most time.
- Make room for guests' clothes in a closet or in a dresser. Set out special touches such as a jewelry tray, hangers, luggage rack and hamper to make your guests really feel at home.
- Consider a garment rack for storing jackets and coats for large gatherings or parties in your home.
- Set out full sets of clean towels and extra pillows and blankets.
- Assemble supplies such as extra toiletries, a first aid kit and sewing kit to store in a guest bathroom.
- If you're hosting children and don't have any of your own, visit the library and check out some books or purchase some small toys that they can play with while they're at your home. Kids can take home a small gift after the visit!
- Set out books and magazines in the guest bedroom and in living spaces.
- Clean out the refrigerator and pantry foods past their prime and stock up on items your guests will enjoy.
